Biomass Harvesting Short Course

Course Description

The use of forest biomass for energy production and conversion to bio-oils and transportation fuels has the potential to strongly impact Missouri’s forests.  Techniques to harvest woody biomass for these industries is expected to vary from existing logging operations. 

Course content includes:

1. Forest impacts of emerging biomass industries
2. Timber volume determination/
   Comparing plot sampling techniques
   -Field Exercise
3. Biomass processing technologies
   -Descriptions
   -Product Specifications
   -Price for delivered product
4. Calculation of biomass harvest & delivery costs
   -Using local data from class members
5. Discussion of equipment needs
