Course Description

Forest Management: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Level I 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

  • Protective equipment
  • Parts of saw, their purpose, settings, and proper sharpening techniques
  • Saw inspection and safety procedures
  • Benefits of controlled felling
  • Bore cutting

Level II: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

  • Establishing the notch and hinge
  • Use of felling wedges, collecting data on hazards, tree height and lean, and planning escape route
  • Chain filing and bar care
  • Cutting spring poles
  • Each participant fells a tree

Level III: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

  • Calculating tree lean limits
  • Advanced cutting and wedging techniques on leaning trees
  • Bucking and limbing methods
  • Each participant fells a tree

Level IV: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

  • Advance felling
  • Planning efficient harvest layouts
  • Use of other powered forest management tools
  • Final evaluation and scoring
  • Each participant fells a tree

The professional Timber Harvester Program is designed to educate the logger, skidder, forester, forest contractor, and landowner in sustaining the forest resources.  The Professional Timer Harvester Program will help accomplish goals today without sacrificing the benefits of tomorrow.
